Day 9 – Antwerp

Christmas in Antwerp includes holiday markets, ice skating, and a ferri wheel. Belgians love to drink jenever (gin) or Glühwein (hot wine) and eat some Smoutebollen/oliebollen (deep fried sweet dumplings) during this time! The Christmas Market in Antwerp is an annual tradition that opens the first weekend in December until the first weekend of January. Sinterklaas or Saint Nicholas visits homes and leaves behind presents and chocolates for children. Families exchange presents on Christmas Eve and share a dinner that is most similiar to the American Thanksgiving Dinner.
