Christmas in Hungary is similar to traditions from other Central European countries. Mikulas, the Hungarian version of Saint Nicholas, visits the homes on eve of December 5th in advance of the Saint Nicholas Feast Day on December 6th. Hungarian children place a boot on their windowsill waiting for Mikulas’s assistant Angel to come by and fill the boot with treats for well behaed children. Children who behave badly receive a raw potato or charcoal instead by the Devil.
