The Cradle of the Nation

On my last day, I visit the “Cradle of the nation”, Guimarães, the first capital of Portugal and the birthplace of their first king. Most people don’t know this but Portugal was “born” in the North while the people fought the Moors almost a millennium ago. Only later the people conquered the rest of the territory through the south of what is our territory nowadays. Guimarães is a great place to visit overall, but it stands out for their first Castle and for its cultural and historical heritage.

I hope that you enjoyed this trip around Porto and the northern region of Portugal. Portugal has so much to offer and many more UNESCO World Heritage Sites to visit. Today was just a beginning! Many thanks to Felipe Santos of Associaco de Turismo do Porto e Norte and my intern Mikael Zeibari for helping with this itinerary. Melhores Cumprimentos / Best regards
