The Paiva Walkway

On our fourth day, I travel to Arouca to visit the Paiva Walkways (Passadiços do Paiva) which is located alongside the Paiva River. It is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon in nature! This destination has won several World Tourism Awards; it is a place that has always been very popular for Portuguese families or couples visit for a walk or just a picnic by the riverbank. Paiva Walkway is 8.7km (5.5 miles) in length.
At a gentle pace, the route takes approximately two and a half hours walking downstream. For the return route (upstream and, therefore uphill), it will take twice as long 😉 There is a daily limit to visitors which ensures that our time will not be crowded or rushed! If you are thinking about going, do not forget to reserve a ticket in advance!
